The plastic ones crack if you put too much vacuum pressure on them. Almost all filters will fit a GL45 thread media bottle. That's the same thing as a 45mm media bottle. I think Nalgene makes some filters that only fit a 33mm so look at the details. But if they say GL45 or 45mm it's the same thing.

I use a lot of 1000 ml GL45 bottles for liquids. They are great and don't leak much. I store all my solvents in them since I found out the original packaging leaks over time. For difficult stuff like HNO3, HCl, amines, I use the red PTFE-lined GL45 caps but they are expensive.
